We caught up with Michael from Worklight Theatre to talk about their show Monster, which is on after Follow Suit in the Pleasance Courtyard Upstairs! Tell us a bit about your show: Monster is a solo show that explores what happens to us all when the red mist descends? It's about anybody who has felt that prickle or surge of anger. We aim to explore why some people lash out, and others do not. It weaves together multiple narratives that explore 4 different men and their responses to anger and violence. What sort of theatre do you make? We make work which responds to the world around us. Our work is shaped by the changes we see in modern life & society and how they affect people on a personal level, then we take those stories and use them to explore the big old world that is out there. What’s the most important thing that theatre should be/do/have? Be engaging. That can be because it is hilarious, because it is a gripping story told really well or because you're watching a man do a handstand for an hour and you're desperate to see if he falls. It doesn't matter what it is but it has to be engaging. What shows at the fringe are you most looking forward to? Goodness, where to start? There's so much! Pleasance-wise, Testosterone by Rhum & Clay will no doubt we ace and we like the look of Secret Life of Humans. I know one company member is looking forward to Offside and the Damned United at Pleasance because he's a football nut. Gary McNair is doing some stuff over at Traverse we'll definitely catch. Monster is on at Upstairs, Pleasance Courtyard from 2-28th Aug at 3.15pm Comments are closed.
