More Incoming love to share with all! Here we spoke to ThisEgg (again!) about their lovely family show that saves the bees and has a party, all at the same time.
How has Me and My Bee been going since Edinburgh 2017 and VAULT?
We’ve been touring all over the UK for the past couple of months and recently passed the 100-show mark! Whilst touring can be tiring, it’s been amazing taking the show to places we otherwise might not get to and spreading awareness about the dying bees past our city bubbles.
Tell us a bit about This Egg as a company
ThisEgg is run by Josie Dale-Jones and has been around since 2010, with the aim of making as much as we can, as often as we can. During that time Josie has self-produced seven shows with a variety of collaborators - currently, ThisEgg is gearing up for Edinburgh 2018 with two new productions: UNCONDITIONAL, with Stefanie Mueller (a.k.a. Josie’s Mum), and dressed., a true story told by four friends from school, made in collaboration with Made My Wardrobe.
There are so many ways to tell stories, tackle issues, explore ideas - why theatre?
Theatre invites a stronger sense of community from it’s audience, it’s performers and it’s technical crew. There is a sense of immediacy and intimacy that you don’t get from reading a book or watching a film, and this can elevate the ‘story-telling’ to a whole other level. It’s challenging, but it’s exciting.
What was the last show you saw that you think everyone should see?
We saw RashDash’s Three Sisters last week, and that was great. Those women are fearless, the whole design of the show was excellent, the music WOW and it’s always refreshing to have a classic picked apart and re-worked.
Theatre making is hard and, although we try our best to work around them, it has it’s limits. If you had an unlimited budget, a unquestioningly devoted audience and all the time in the world, what show would you make?
What a question! Hmm. We’re in the very early stages of developing a family show about Sex Ed, and given the somewhat controversial nature of this topic it would probably benefit massively from having all of those things!
What else in the Incoming Festival line-up are you excited to see?
Very sadly our tour schedule means we can’t see many of the other shows! However, we are super pumped to catch Signals by Footprint Theatre who are on after us at New Diorama on Monday 25th June - we’ve heard great things!
Me and My Bee is coming to Incoming Festival at 7pm on 25 June at New Diorama and 7pm 1 July at HOME.
